Microchip Technology Inc. (Microcore Technology) recently announced the launch of LAN9252, a discrete EtherCAT slave controller integrated with two 10ther 100 PHY. This highly integrated device features two 10ax 100 Ethernet transceivers, support for both fiber and copper wires, and cable diagnostics.LAN9252 supports traditional host bus and SPI/SQI communication as well as independent digital I / O interface, which allows system designers to choose flexibly from a variety of single-chip microcomputer models when implementing real-time EtherCAT communication standards. In addition, LAN9252 can effectively reduce system complexity and costs for developers who use EtherCAT in factory automation, process control, motor / motion control, and Internet of things (IoT) industrial Ethernet applications.

The LAN9252 EtherCAT slave controller fully complies with the EtherCAT standard and is interoperable with all EtherCAT systems. It includes a dual-port RAM (DPRAM) of 4KB and three fieldbus memory management units (FMMU).LAN9252 also supports cable diagnostics to facilitate on-site technical service personnel to quickly and effectively diagnose line faults and provide optical fiber connectivity. The new EtherCAT slave controller can operate in commercial, industrial and extended industrial temperature ranges with low pin count and small size QFN and QFP-EP packages. 



Development support. 

In order to support the use of LAN9252 for development work, Microchip also launched two evaluation boards that can support a variety of system architectures.These hardware systems demonstrate how to connect with LAN9252 through basic input / output connections and how to connect with single-chip computers including 32-bit PIC32MX series through serial communication. In addition, Microchip has now begun to provide software development kits (SDK) to further help developers immediately evaluate devices and start building solutions for their applications so that they can quickly familiarize themselves with the features of LAN9252. The part numbers of the two evaluation boards are EVB-LAN9252-HBI and EVB-LAN9252-DIG-IO, respectively, and are now available through Microchip sales representatives, global authorized distributors, or the microchipDIRECT website.
